Learning Objectives

Writing

Content

Writing skill is an invaluable asset to have in English learning. We encourage students to write as much as possible. Through debate arguments, paragraph and essay writing, creative writing, and speech writing, students have many opportunities to hone their writing skill with varied content styles.

Improved communication skills

Writing skill also allows students to more accurately express their own ideas. While speaking is important for communication, in modern times ,writing has become seemingly even more important for communicating with others. Clear and concise writing is a key component to English fluency, and is a major goal of our curriculum.

Composition ability

Creating an organized, easy to follow essay or piece of writing is important to students’ writing skill. With a focus on composition, students learn to write well-crafted paragraphs and essays in all areas of their work. By concentrating heavily in this area, students’ overall ability to form and express opinions, arguments, and ideas vastly improves.

Language expression

Writing provides a unique opportunity to put learned vocabulary and expressions to use. English is known for its ability to express an idea in a variety of ways, and students will learn this skill through their writing. The use of challenging words, expressions, and idioms leads to a more fully understood language.

Speaking

Grammar Elements

The best way to get perfect grammar in speaking is to speak. We encourage students to put what they learn to good use by focusing on the parts of grammar that can be challenging, but necessary, to become a fluent speaker of English. This way, students will be able to use more complex and engaging sentences in their speech.

Vocabulary Elements

Similar to grammar, putting vocabulary to use is the most effective way to internalize words and remember them permanently. Through the active use of talking and conversation in class, students have the chance to use new words constantly, making their effective vocabulary grow.

Communication Skills

Communication is the main goal of learning a language. It is the single biggest goal we have. The ability to have an idea, and express it clearly, is paramount being a fluent speaker. We focus on teaching students effective ways of communicating their ideas to others so they can be understood, and so they can understand others.

Pronunciation

Properly pronouncing words in a different language is often considered one of the more difficult aspects of learning it. Through the native teachers’ classes, students have a fantastic opportunity to listen and practice correct pronunciation. Not only that, but properly speaking also means properly using tone and inflection and rhythm, which are all areas that we focus on while learning the correct way to speak.

Listening & Language

Fortian Listening

Our online platform is full of educational content for children. Videos provide an additional aid to support students’ progress. They fill the students’ with curiosity and motivation to learn more, and this is a large help in improving their skills.

Listening skills

Through a variety of activities and curricula, students will learn practical listening skills that are an important aspect of learning a language. With native teacher classes, students will have opportunities to further refine their ear for English, while also being exposed to a worldwide culture of listening. It’s not just about hearing words, but also emotion, attitude, tone, and expression that will lead to a great listener.

Language used

The best way to learn a word is to use it. Vocabulary memorization is one tool, but using those words effectively requires actually using them. The curriculum is based on this idea. Through the use of words in speaking, writing, and listening activities, students will more effectively be able to increase their vocabulary.

Grammar

Grammar is like a giant puzzle. After building a solid foundation to work from, we help students learn the patterns and pieces of grammar and how they fit together to make a final “picture” of a sentence. This mindset also allows students to more enjoyably engage with grammar while they learn increasingly more complex sentence structures.

Reading

Books we love

Reading provides a joy to children that few forms of entertainment can offer. We want students to learn to love reading, and our goal is to instill in them a passion for books. This step alone will boost a child’s English abilities and potential.

Reading for Language

With reading comes the greatest opportunity to not only see and learn new words, but to fully internalize them through use. Rather than memorizing a list, reading books allows students to understand how new words are used correctly, and it exposes them to a variety of language such as idioms, expressions, and colloquial vocabulary.

Understanding the theme and purpose

While a surface level understanding of the actual text of the book is paramount, our goal is to go deeper and critically analyze stories. We want students to learn the ability to think critically, understand the deeper meaning of a text, and apply this skill to not only understand the words on the page, but the purpose of their use.

Love of reading

Teachers who love reading know best how effective it is for students. The teachers’ passion for books is infectious, and the shared joy of reading in the classroom provides an enjoyable atmosphere to both learn and have fun.
